Information: The Playhouse Project is the bringing the party to GRUB on 28th November 12pm - 2pm to the soundtrack of Pablo Blanquito & his 9 year old son DR Cookie B2B.

Pablo Blanquito is a well known selector, broadcaster and promoter on the Manchester scene. With 6 monthly radio shows all over the world . Spinning all over the city and Europe he has a wide musical palate and always plays with a dancers mindset.

Dr Cookie aka Blaise is a 9 year old DJ with an annual radio show on Reform Radio since he was 4. He has spun mini sets (with the help of Pablo his dad) at YES, Society and Cross The Tracks festival. He brings his child's perspective and diverse musical upbringing with him.

Hosted by MC KWASI aka the Smile Factory. Kwasi has worked with more artists and DJs than you could imagine. Possibly most famous as Mr Scruff's right wing man, the loveable MC was the host of the seminal Friends & Family events and has been featured on tracks with the likes of Suns Of Arqa, The Messengers, Mark Rae, DJ Vadim and Beatphreak. Kwasi is also credited with writing material in his other guises of Rasta Rock and King.

Conker Crew will be bringing their own style of indoor forest school, where the kids can chill or get busy with a range of activities.

GRUB is a cool independent street food venue based in Manchester’s Green Quarter as part of the Redbank Project.


THE PLAYHOUSE PROJECT - A daytime clubbing experience for parents that miss their dancing days. Planting positive seeds and vibes into the next generation of music lovers in our city. Organised by a crew of seasoned clubbers and DJs that are now parents.

This event is aimed at 0-12 year olds, however older children are welcome to attend.

THE PLAYHOUSE PROJECT returns to Escape To Freight Island on 7th November 10am – 12pm for a full on Disco inspired family friendly rave with the Disco Mum's (MIF, Heuy 54, Back to Basics, Red Laser Disco). Following on from the success of their fabulous DJ set for The Playhouse Project at Manchester International Festival back in July.

Disco Mum's are back and they are bringing the party vibes, expect guaranteed feel good tunes, anything from Disco, ,House, Techno, Boogie & Italo, …..no barriers, no restrictions, just proper good times!

Disco Mums - an all-female Manchester based DJ collective of seasoned clubbers (now proud parents) who are still out, still on it &...still playing records. Influenced by the scene in Manchester over the past 20 years, their roots are in nights like Electric Chair, Aficionado, Friends & Family, Homoelectric, Back to Basics and Bugged Out. They've been partying hard and collecting music for more than 15 years. In the past few years they've been having the time of their lives flexing their vinyl record collections as Disco Mums.

The Cequin Circus – Catch their shiney Disco Ball Dancers out to bedazzle, dance and shine bright at The Playhouse Project. They'll be bringing their hoops to entertain the kids on the dance floor.

Square Pegs’ll be screen printing and decorating Disco 45 record boxes. Teach the kids about life before digital, and take home the perfect Lego storage, all before lunchtime!

BLOOM Baby / Toddler Sessions are packed full of a range of activities to encourage baby's physical, emotional, cognitive and social development so your little one is constantly learning throughout. With music, pom-poms, baby yoga and massage, instruments, parachutes, sensory lights, bubbles, treasure baskets and more.

(Aimed at 0 - 4 year olds ONLY to ensure a safe space for little ones to relax and play).

About us -

THE PLAYHOUSE PROJECT is a unique family-friendly rave experience, organised by a crew of seasoned clubbers and DJ's from Manchester who are now parents. We keep the family crews dancing by providing top DJs, dancers, club lighting, visuals, kids activities, face painting, bubble machines, inflatables, colouring mural and giant balloons.

Family Ticket 2 Adults & up to 3 kids £25 (plus booking fee)
Adults & Kids £6.50 (plus booking fee).
Babies under 2 years old free

ESCAPE TO FREIGHT ISLAND - is an inspiring new urban landscape carved from the long – forgotten Freight Depot. Home to some of the finest restaurants plus a huge variety of bars all together under one roof.

We are mega excited to be back at Escape to Freight Island following on from our sell out show with Dub Smuggler & MC Kwasi. Playhouse's favourite line up Veba & Lil'Fee returns for a b2b set expect Electronica & Disco for your dancefloor stomp.

VEBA (Rae & Christian, Fat City, Groove Armada, HOMOBLOC & La Discotheque) Manchester music scene queen and one of Manchester's greatest soul singers & DJs.
Lil’ Fee (The Whip, Flex) has enjoyed an international music career as the drummer in slick, dance-rock outfit, The Whip.

ELECTRON - A walkabout unlike any other with multiple lights, strobes and inbuilt lasers on his suit. Playhouse's ROBOT is lost on an unfamiliar planet searching for a new source of energy until he discovered something extraordinary - that we call, music...!

Square Pegs - Blast off from Escape to Freight Island and let your imagination soar high with Square Pegs. They’ll encourage you to get creative and make your very own jet pack out of recycled mixed media.

The Conker Crew - Nature and Science collide as our imaginations run wild with some martian mini-beast making, the creation of your very own solar system and even the weaving of your own star to guide you on our Scavenger Space Quest. And if the cosmos is just too chaotic, you can always seek solace at the Conker Crew Creative Station where sensory-fuelled free play meets exploratory experimentation.

Bloom Baby Classes - Award winning baby/toddler development classes, highly interactive, musical & multi sensory space out (safe area for 0-4 years old ONLY).

THE PLAYHOUSE PROJECT returns to Escape to Freight Island on 15th August 10am - 12pm for a full on Carnival inspired family friendly Mash Up in the Ticket hall. With restrictions lifted we can finally party hard and it's been way too long..!

Dub Smugglers Sound System a bunch of sound geeks that create sound system inspired music to play on their hand built sound systems. They release their music on their own record label and DJ all over the UK and Europe.

Hosted by MC KWASI aka the Smile Factory (MR Scruff, AIM, Friends & Family, Fat City) will be bringing all the feels, good vibes and messages of love to our dance-floor.
Expect to hear Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Roots & Jungle sounds with child safe bass.
Soul Siblings Dance will be onstage delivering feel good & follow the leader dance routines with percussion and drums.

twist. Busting moves to the freshest sounds to inspire creativity into the minds of our younger crowd.
We keep the crew dancing by providing top Manchester DJ's, performers, club lighting, visuals, soft play area, bubble machines, Papertown crafts, play dough tables, inflatables, dance floor activities and giant balloons.

Information: THE PLAYHOUSE PROJECT established in 2016 is a daytime clubbing experience for the whole family, aimed at parents that miss their dancing days.

The Playhouse Project are producing two events as part of this year’s programme at Festival Square, Cathedral Gardens.

MC KWASI - aka the Smile Machine (Mr Scruff, AIM, Friends & Family, Fat City).
Mr Scruff’s mic-man of choice, KWASI, Manchester's original Master of Ceremonies will be bringing goodvibes and messages of love to our dancefloor - a true Manchester legend!!

VEBA
Manchester music scene doyenne, VEBA (Rae & Christian, Fat City, Groove Armada & La Discotheque), is one of Manchester's greatest soul singers. VEBA provided her unique vocal skills on several tracks for Grand Central records, most famously “Spellbound”, one of the most iconic soul tunes ever to be produced in Manchester, released in 1996. VEBA's soulful, gospel tones have also appeared on a number of Groove Armada tunes. Expect big beats and a slick DJ set of Electronica and Disco.


Lil'Fee
DJ Lil’ Fee, aka Fiona Daniel (The Whip, Flex) has enjoyed an international music career as the drummer in slick, dance-rock outfit, The Whip. Lil' Fee's DJ sets are finely crafted, rhythmic-roller-
coasters, full of sonic energy for your dancefloor stomp. After agreeing to work with us back in 201,7 Lil' Fee was our first well known headliner and has been instrumental in the successful launch of Playhouse Project events over the last few years. As a parent herself, Fee understands the concept of having fun with the kids and certainly knows how to bring the party.
Expect soulful House & Disco.

Round The Twist Arts
Round the Twists arts deliver children's interactive arts workshops with a focus on performing arts and
storytelling. Join Sal in character for an energetic and inspiring fusion of interactive storytelling and
performance through role play and soundscape.

Paper Town Crafts
Paper Town hosts pop up children's craft events around the North West and designs craft kits to make
crafting with kids easy, fun and faff free. Paper Town will be bringing all their creative, bright and fun
crafts along so the children at the event can get creating and making Dream-catchers whilst at their
tables.
